The initial injury partiallyresolved; however, three days later the foot began to swell, becomered, and painful. A deep subcutaneous abscess developed, with acentral sinus tract from which a cloudy, serous fluid exuded. Agram stain from the wound showed many gram positive cocci inclusters. Colonies isolated from the specimen were described asentire, convex, and smooth, with a slight yellow pigmentation. Betahemolysis was observed.
