Chemistry

The vapour pressure of liquid A at 300 K is 76.7 kPa and that ofpure liquid B is 52.0 kPa. These two compounds form ideal liquidand gaseous mixtures. Consider the equilibrium composition of amixture in which the mole fraction of A in the vapour is 0.350.Calculate the total pressure of the vapour and the composition ofthe liquid mixture.

mole fraction of A = 0.350

mole fraction of B = 1-0.350 = 0.65

Partial pressure of A = mole fraction of A X total pressure

                                  = 0.350 X 128.7

                                  = 45.045 KPa

Partial pressure of B = mole fraction of B X total pressure

                                  = 0.65 X 128.7

                                  = 83.655 KPa
