The sinking of the RMS Titanic is one of the most infamousshipwrecks in history. On April 15, 1912, during her maiden voyage,the Titanic sank after colliding with an iceberg, killing 1502 outof 2224 passengers and crew. This sensational tragedy shocked theinternational community and led to better safety regulations forships. One of the reasons that the shipwreck resulted in such lossof life was that there were not enough lifeboats for the passengersand crew. Although there was some element of luck involved insurviving, some groups of people were more likely to survive thanothers.
The file Titanic.xls contains data for 1309 of the Titanicpassengers. Each row represents one person. The columns describedifferent attributes about the person including whether theysurvived (survived), their gender (sex), and their passenger-class(pclass). You can find a short description of each variable in thevariables worksheet included in the file.
