The goal of the current events paper (events should be within the past 1-2 years) is to make a connection between the principles you are learning in class and events that are happening in society or in your work lives. Each student is responsible for completing one current events paper. The current events paper is an individual assignment (each student is responsible for his or her own paper). The current events paper can relate to any marketing topic that has been addressed in the prior weeks. The source of your current article can be any credible business publication or major news outlet (e.g., Economist, Fast Company, Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, New York Times, Business Week, Washington Post, etc.); personal internet blogs would not be considered a credible source or news. The goal is to apply what you have learned in class to the current event. You need to provide more than a summary of the article. You need to analyze the issue and then either find a solution for the problem or illuminate the situation in some significant way using course materials. Please turn in a copy of the article with your paper on Blackboard. If you are using print materials, it is up to you to scan them into electronic format or to provide a RELIABLE URL. If I click on the URL and it does not work you will lose points, as I would not be able to read the article you are discussing. In the paper, be sure to answer the following questions: 1) The summary of the current event/issues discussed 2) How is it related to the marketing topics discussed in class? 3) Recommendations or suggestions on how to improve the issues discussed.
