Chemistry

- The cube length is 3.23 cm. What is the volume of the cube? _ml

- How many significant figures should be in the calculatedvolume?

- The measured mass of the cube is 43.808 g. Using that numbercombined with whatever the volume is, determine the cube's density(in g/mL) ?

- Based on the density that was calculated, which type ofplastic was used to make the cube?

Low Density Polyethylene, High Density Polethylene, Nylon,Polystyrene, PVC, Plexiglas?

Solution :-

cube length = 3.23 cm

volume = ?

Volume of cube = (edge)^3

                            = (3.23 cm)^3

                            = 33.7 cm^3

1 cm3 = 1 ml

therefore 33.7 cm3 * 1 ml / 1 cm3 = 33.7 ml

So the volume of cube = 33.7 ml

3 Sig fig are present in the volume.

Calculating the density of the cube

density = mass / volume

             = 43.808 g / 33.7 ml

            = 1.30 g /ml

Therefore the density of the cube is 1.30 g /ml

Since the density of the cube is higher than 1 g / ml therefore we can say that cube is made up of high density polyethylene.
