Sungai Perak, as shown in FIGURE Q1a, is the primary source of water which is used for many purposes such as main supply for irrigation, potable water, fisheries, mining and other agricultural activities. Over the years, the water level of Sungai Perak has dropped significantly. The increment of housing scheme and sand mining activities is the main possible cause on the sedimentation problem that leads to the reduction of water level in the river. The local water authority decides to construct a mini dam and a reservoir to meet the water demands. The layout of the mini dam is shown in FIGURE Q1b. Take the difference between riverbed elevation and ground elevation to be 10 m.

This project has been assigned to Consultant A to develop a conceptual design of the proposed dam. You, as a hydraulic engineer of the company, are given a task to propose the design for the proposed dam. The design should consist of the justification for the proposed site and the geometrical properties of the dam. Provide the relevant hydrostatic analysis with the aids of appropriate diagrams. State your assumptions whenever necessary.
