Shrimp farming, an aquaculture business that produces shrimp for human consumption, has been on the rise. Consequences of this include pollution of groundwater and coastal estuaries, food webs collapsing, declining biodiversity, and habitat loss. Since 2013, multiple countries and independent fish farms have adopted new standards in shrimp farming to reduce the negative impact on the environment, while still being able to produce enough shrimp for consumer demand. How will this change affect impacted ecosystems in the countries that adopted the new standards? biodiversity will decrease local populations will stabilize food webs will begin to collapse the ecosystem will experience habitat degradation
