Question 4 [20 Marks] Each of the nine (9) cases below indicate taxpayers whose money which may or may not be taxable in Namibia and why:

1. Mr. FN. Amunkete who lives in Windhoek received interest of N$ 6,000 on money lent by him to a resident of Britain.

2. A net gain of N$ 30,000 was made by wallaby Limited, an Australian company on sale of industrial land situated near Tsumeb. As a result of the disinvestment campaign against the Republic, the company had changed its original intention of trading in the Republic and therefore no longer required the land.

3. Sam Sea a Walvis Bay estate agent received commission of N$ 5,000 on the sale of a beach front site on the Skeleton coast.

4. Fares who is a resident in Mauritius owns a flat on the esplanade in Otjiwarongo. During the current tax year he received net rents of N$ 6,600 from the occupier of his flat.

5. Economic Car Hire is Windhoek based car hire firm carrying on the business in Windhoek and Okahandja. A customer paid them N$ 800 to use a car for two weeks during the current tax year. The car was used in Grootfontein for the first week and in the Rundu in the second week.

6. Mr. Mbeeli a Republic resident received a pension of N$ 12,000 per annum from his employers, a French firm, for whom he had worked for 15 years. Mr. Mbeeli had only worked in the Republic for his last 3 years of employment. The pension was based on the 15 years service.

7. Mr. Fares is the manager of the local branch of a British company which has its head office in London. Hes also a director of the company. During the 2020 tax year, he received a salary of N$ 48,000 as well as a directors fee of N$ 3,000 from the company.

8. A firm owning a factory at Phoenix outside Windhoek paid Mr. Gilbert, security advisor who is a resident in Zimbabwe, a fee of N$ 2000 for advice given by him in respect of how to keep the factory safe during times of unrest.

9. Jason an employee of a company operating in Germany was sent to Namibia for four months to assist with the opening of a new factory situated at New Germany near Windhoek. While in the Republic, he was paid an equivalent of N$ 8000 for the four months work.
