1. You wish to test the hypothesis that introverted people earnless money than extroverted people. You sample 27 people from yourgraduating class and ask them how much money they make and alsogive them a test to determine how introverted they are. This testof introversion yields a score from 0 to 100 with 0 being notintroverted at all (i.e. extroverted) and 100 being veryintroverted.

2. There are 2 washing machines in your apartment building and youthink that the time it takes to wash your clothes varies dependingon which machine you use. You decide to test this and spend oneafternoon in your laundry room. You record the time it takes towash one load each time a person does their laundry and end up withthe following data. Machine 1 was used 14 times and the mean timefor 1 wash was 22.1 minutes with a standard deviation of 2.2minutes. Machine 2 was used 17 times and took an average of 21.0minutes per wash with a standard deviation of 1.6 minutes

3. You have developed a new treatment for Alzheimer’s and wish totest it. You give your treatment to 15 patients with suspectedAlzheimer’s disease and a placebo to 15 other patients withsuspected Alzheimer’s disease. Your treatment is inexpensive, andhas few side effects. You give each person a memory test after 3months of treatment. Scores on this test are based on number ofitems remembered from a list after a delay of 1 hour.
