Personal Career Planning: Instructions
1. Complete thefollowing activities
Activity 1: Strengths andWeaknesses Inventory?Different occupations require specialtalents, abilities, and skills. Each of us, you included, has arepertoire of existing strengths and weaknesses that are “rawmaterials” we presently offer a potential employer. Actions can(and should!) be taken over time to further develop currentstrengths and to turn weaknesses into strengths. Make a listidentifying your most important strengths and weaknesses inrelation to the career direction you are likely to pursue upongraduation. Place a * next to each item you consider most importantto focus on for continued personal development.
Activity 2: Five-Year CareerObjectives?Make a list of three career objectives that youhope to accomplish within five years of graduation. Be sure theyare appropriate given your list of personal strengths andweaknesses.
Activity 3: Five-Year CareerAction Plans?Write a specific action plan for accomplishingeach of the five objectives. State exactly what you will do, and bywhen, in order to meet each objective. If you will need specialsupport or assistance, identify what it is and state how you willobtain it. An outside observer should be able to read your actionplan for each objective and end up feeling confident that he or sheknows exactly what you are going to do and why.
