In order to gauge the success of the opposing pieces, think backto the rhetorical triangle: Does the author appeal to logos throughthe use of facts, statistics, logic, etc? Are anecdotes, narrativeexamples, personal stories, etc. used to create pathos? Does theauthor invoke ethos by appealing to the reader’s sense of right andwrong? Also, does the author establish his/her credibility throughknowledge, tone, etc? Is there anything else about the author’swriting that is particularly effectual in helping him/her toreinforce his/her thesis?
