I wanted to ask we students are just taught Work force x displacement But isnt work affected by friction or angle of force or thru st Like if I apply a 10N force on an object i n space it will just go straight and straight a nd assuming there is nothing that comes it way wouldnt the displacement become infi nite and so does the work Also on the eart h itself for the same force an object will tra vel much further on ice than on wood So is nt work a very vague concept considering p hysics is the science which doesnt go about things blindly And if work and energy are b asically the same why introduce the concep t of work in the first place
