Public Speaking…Dealing with It
Often when a person thinks of public speakingthe thoughts a person may have will vary from the next, becausewhile one person may have experience the other person may not.Being able to communicate effectively requires that a personacknowledges the frame of reference of the otherperson to avoid miscommunication. As a person that has had manyprojects that required me to speak in front of others, I neverreally put much thought as to why I was nervous, to really be ableto work on the problem. So today I will be explaining how knowingthe fundamentals of public speaking can help to prepare for aspeech ,how to research for content that can be applied to thevisual aid that maybe prepared to enhanceperformance and lastly how to achieve the best speech deliverypossible,as the aid itself will communicate the purpose throughnonverbal communication.
First and foremost when writing a speech, it is important to beaudience centered, considering who the audience iswill help to choose an appropriate topic. After choosing a topic, the research begins, having research makes a person credible totheir audience. The topic that is chosen should always follow atheme, by having a theme the audience may be moredrawn in, to listen to what is being said. Thebase of every speech has its purpose whether it be a persuasivespeech or an informative speech, havingorganization throughout the speech can help createa flow of events as opposed to having ideas scattered throughoutthe speech. As a speaker, the goal is to be able to connect to theaudience. The language used within the speech canhelp the message be easier for the audience to understand.
Secondly, when doing research to find sources, the purpose of the overall speech is always the main focus. Moreresearch means more supporting material, whetherit be a article, a video, or data from a poll this information canbe used to persuade the audience of that causethat the speaker wants the audience to support. Likewise wheninforming the audience its best to findinteresting facts, no matter how common a topic maybe there isalways something new that can be learned.
Lastly when presenting the speech its important to be aware ofthe volume as the audience needs to be able tohear even in the back of the room, if the audience can hear in theback they’ll be able to engage in the conversation depending on theconversational style, and through the use ofparalanguage with a change in tone, the meaning ofthe message can be changed. The projection of thespeakers voice can be used to grab the attention of the audiencefrom beginning to end. One of the many ways to present is throughextemporaneous speaking. But also taking controlof the communication anxiety can help to build upconfidence in what an individual might be saying to the audience.Gestures maybe used at some point maybe todemonstrate something throughout the presentation. Being able tohold eye contact and having a loudvoice makes it easier to be heard if the messagehas a lot of time and thought into building being able to speak toan audience about it will feel like imparting knowledge to theaudience.
In conclusion, â€think twice before you speak because your wordsand influence will plant the seed of either success or failure inthe mind of another.†Speaking to others always leaves an impact ofsome kind. From job interviews to speaking with other peers, leavingan good impression is what helps people remember the message thatwas spoken as well as the person that spoke, the one common thingabout all great speeeches they made an impact somehow, and speakingin public can leave an impact on the audience if the message is theright one towards that specific audience.
