Solution

Given data

mass of Al2(SO4)3 = 10.26 g

moles of Al2(SO4)3 = ?

formula to calculate moles is

moles = mass in gram / molar mass

molar mass is the sum of atomic masses of the elements in the molecular formula

lets calculate molar mass of Al2(SO4)3

molar mass of Al2(SO4)3 = (2*Al)+(3*S)+(12 * O)

                                               = (2*26.982 g)+(3*32.066 g)+(12*15.999 g)

                                              = 342.15 g per mol

now lets calculate moles using this molar mass

moles of Al2(SO4)3 = 10.26 g / 342.15 g peer mol

                                    = 0.02999 mol Al2(SO4)3
