Given: A shortcylinder of steel has a diameter of 150 mm and length of 500 mm. Itcomes out of a heat treatment process at a uniform temperature of200oC and is plunged into an unstirred bath of oil at atemperature of 20oC.   

Find:     Considering heat loss from only thecylindrical surface (ignore the ends), which orientation would coolmore quickly? One orientation is for the axis to be parallel togravity and the other perpendicular to gravity.

Assume: 1. For the situation with the axisparallel to gravity, assume the cylinder behaves as a flat verticalplate. 2. Use the properties of unused engine oil (Table A.5) tomodel the oil bath
