Heat pumps arewidely used for building thermal energy services cooling heatingand water heating Air source heat pump is one of the most costeffective option and may play a key role in the development ofsmart building in future Air source heat pump does not have aconstant temperature source like soil ground water or surfacewater also the efficiency of airsource heat pump decreasessharply at low source temperatureAs they competewith other heating and cooling equipments and in order to reducethe environmental impact of their use it is very important thatheat pumps should be energy efficient The main purpose of thisstudy was to experimentally investigate the performance of theASHPWH under varying air source temperature a prototype wasdeveloped and tested for different evaporator temperatureconditions Hence this chapter describes the heat pump designconstruction instrumentation and experimental procedureadoptedExperimental SetupAn experimentalsetup for Air source heat pump water heater is developed forcarrying out the specific experimental workIn Fig principledrawing of the experimental setup and main components of ASHP areillustrated The ASHP has a scroll compressor using R407C asrefrigerant The condenser is plate heat exchanger consisting of 14plates with 048 m2 heat transfer area The systemconsist of split evaporators of fin tube type with two rows oftubes each The thermostatic expansion valve is used in this systemas an expansion device The volume of hot water tank is 500litersDuring the ASHPWHsystem running the working fluid absorbs heat from air evaporatesin the evaporator then is compressed into the high pressure andtemperature vapour which is then condensed into liquid and releaseheat in the plate heat exchanger to heat up the water in the watertank The liquid goes through thermal expansion valve turning intogasliquid mixture with low temperature and pressure The lowtemperature liquid is vaporized in the evaporator after absorbingheat from the air and the cycle continuesIn the experimenta controller sets the final temperature of water in the tank Whenthe water temperature goes up to the set point the system stopsautomatically and restarts once temperature lower down to the setlimit Suction fan is located at the top which is used to forcethe air available at the evaporator    See Answer
