I believe that task-orientated and relationship-orientated arevery important factors that a leader needs, like Musk. The taskside is the ability to get things done, while the relationship sideis the business relationships needed for the company to besuccessful. Each situation will be a little different and it is upto the leader to be able play the balancing act between the two.They have to have the flexibility to become more task orientated ormore relationship orientated. Musk, was a leader that was able toaccomplish these traits and cares for his company enough to knowthat every member of the team is equally helpful in the success ofthe company.

Why do you think Musk is successful in overcomingobstacles and handling conflict? How do you overcome obstacles ininfluencing individuals in your life?

Musk is successful in overcoming obstacles and handlingconflicts because he believes in the company and creates aconstructive climate for the employees working for him. Even at hisall-time low, Musk continued to keep the company going andnegotiations with investors going because he believed the companywould be successful. He did not want to let anyone down and wantedto show that this was the best company of its time. Dealing withpersonal life and his business life was probably the most stressfultime he has faced, and yet, he pursued his goal and stayed focusedon it. Influencing individuals in my life to overcome obstacles hasbeen rough. I managed a young security team, and in times of shortstaffing, not everyone was interested in working overtime. Thiscreates many issues with covering open shifts, even with the rewardof time and a half. I would work to try and accommodate them whenthey needed it, such as a day off or leave early, in hopes thatthey would help me out when I needed it. A lot of times, theydid.

These are all traits that help an effectiveleader gain that trust, respect, and responsibility. They believein more than just themselves and put others first. Having goalsgives leaders and their teams something to work towards.Conscientiousness is having high standards and always wanting to doyour best. Enthusiasm that is active, energetic, and oftenoptimistic and open to change. Finally, we have Intuitiveness,which can be described as using your gut when making decisionsinstead of trying to overload with a lot of changing information inthe business world. These are all great traits that a successfulleader can use.
