A rectangular tank 1.5 m wide, 3 m long and 1.8 m deep containswater to a depth of 1.2 m. Find the horizontal acceleration thatmay be imparted to the tank in the direction of its length sothat
1. the water is just about to spill
2. the front bottom corner of the tank is just exposed.
3. the bottom of the tank is exposed to its midpoint.
For (2) and (3) above, compute the volume of the water thatwould spill out from the tank. Also compute the total forces oneach end of the tank in each of the cases and show that thedierence between these forces equals the unbalanced force necessaryto accelerate the liquid mass in the tank.
