The transformer has copper losses of5 kW and core losses of 3.5 kW. Electricity costs $0.07/kW-hr. Whatis the total cost of transformer losses over a period of 1year?

When the transformer is at full load both copper loss and core loss occur But core loss is negligible compared to the copper loss as there will be a huge surge of current passing through it as it is in short circuit Thus total power is 5 85kW When the transformer is not connected to the load but is still connected to the power supply it experiences core loss mainly as the primary current loading is very small and we neglect itThus    See Answer
