A. Consider the use of Deadly Force by police officers inlight of all the media attention presented. Do you believe themedia's portrayal of the force used by police officers is justifiedor unjustified? What would you do to change, if anything, thenegative perception attributed to police officers by the media tothe public?
After you respond to the question with your opinion, ina few sentences respond to the two classmates opinion if you agreewith their post. ex... I agree becuse so so so for each
B. \"The media has made police brutality a topic thatbrings up a lot of controversy in today's society , their negativecoverage on these incidents leads the general public to believethat law enforcement officers are using deadly force unnecessarily. The media's portrayal is not justified because numerous studieshave shown that police officers do not overuse deadly force andmost officers are not likely to utilize deadly force with a firearmthroughout their careers. I would change the media's take on theincidents by getting police officers to speak on their behalf aswell as try and make the media's overall tone more neutral thananything, I think that making the information on the prevalence ofan officer using deadly force public would also change somepeople's opinion on the topic.\"
C. \"I believe the media’s portrayal of force used by officers isunjustified because they don’t say both sides of the story.Sometimes the media reports fake news, and overexaggerates becauseof what they say, how they say it, and maybe they even hide someinformation. Which is why I don’t really believe what they say. Also, according to the book, statistics indicate that policeofficers do not overuse force. Police will only use deadly force ifthey are provoked. For example, when someone resists arrest, theonly way police can calm the person is by using force.
What I would do to change the negative perception is release thefootage recorded by either the body cam or the vehicle camera. Letthe officer say his side of the story and explain what happened. Iwould also change how the media portrays police officers. Insteadof creating bias, they can show the positive side of policeofficers which can change the way the public sees an officer.\"
