Question

Mechanical Engineering

100 people enter a room that is initially at a temperature of 15C and pressure of 1bar. Each person losses heat to the air in theroom at a constant rate of 300 W at a constant temperature of 37 C.The air mass in the room is 750 Kg, remains constant and its cv =0.79 kJ/(Kg K), cp = 1.08 kJ/(Kg K) and the gas constant is 0.287kJ/(Kg K). Air enters the room at a temperature 25 C at a mass flowrate of 0.01 Kg/s and leaves the room at the temperature of theroom and at the same mass flow rate. The pressure remains constantduring this process.

a) Determine the temperature of the air in the room after 30minutes assuming that there is no heat transfer from the room tothe surroundings because it is heavily insulated.

b) Calculate the entropy production for this process assumingthat the people are at a temperature of 310 K.
